EU ready for sanctions against Israel in the grain crisis
The EU is ready with sanctions against Israel in the escalating grain crisis between the country and Ukraine, reports Euronews.
"The EU has noted reports that a ship from the Russian shadow fleet loaded with stolen Ukrainian grain has been unloaded in the port of Haifa," writes a spokesperson for the European Commission.
Ukraine has become angry with Israel after a ship - the second in April - docked in Haifa with grain that Russia stole from occupied Ukrainian territories. President Zelenskyj writes on X that Ukraine is also preparing sanctions.
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar criticizes Zelenskyj for "Twitter diplomacy", but adds that an investigation into the ship has been launched. According to Israel, it has not docked yet, but the ship tracking site Marine Traffic shows that it has been in the port of Haifa for several days.
Zelenskyy angry at Israel after stolen grain
Israel “violates its own laws” when buying grain from occupied Ukrainian territories, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Tuesday. According to the president, a ship with wheat stolen by Russia has arrived at the port of Haifa, Israel.
“This is not – and cannot be – legitimate business. The Israeli authorities cannot be unaware of which ships arrive at the country’s ports and what cargo they are carrying,” he wrote on X.
Zelenskyy also accused Russia of “systematic” theft and export of grain seized on Ukrainian soil. He warned that Ukraine is preparing a package of sanctions against Israeli companies that transport and sell smuggled grain.
