The political situation in Bulgaria
“Putin’s Trojan horse” could become prime minister today

Today, more than five million Bulgarians are called to vote. For the eighth time in five years, new parliamentary elections are being held.

Former President Rumen Radev and his left-leaning Progressive Bulgaria are the big favorites after going to the polls on fighting corruption and strengthening democracy in the country.

Liberal EU advocates, however, are wary of Radev being elected, based on his stance towards Russia.

“Given how he relates to Putin and Russia, there is a risk that there will be a pro-Russian government at a critical juncture. He could become Putin’s Trojan horse in Europe,” says French MEP Valérie Hayer, who belongs to the liberal Renaissance party, to the Financial Times.

Protests against Trump
Sánchez's opposition makes him grow - Trump criticizes

Pedro Sánchez has long been accused by his antagonists of being an opportunist - for saying what is necessary to stay in power. But recently the Spanish prime minister has also been highlighted in positive terms for the same behavior, writes the New York Times.

Sánchez has stood up to US President Donald Trump for his actions against NATO, Palestine, Greenland, Venezuela and Iran and he has done so in a way that has made him stand out against many other European leaders.

-The Spanish government will not celebrate those who set the world on fire, just because they show up with a bucket of water, he has said, for example.

And the statements seem to benefit the prime minister. He is up in opinion polls and Spain has also strengthened ties with other countries, such as China, the newspaper writes.

Election in Hungary
Expert: Now or never for newly elected Péter Magyar

The votes have been counted in Hungary, but now the work begins for the newly elected Prime Minister Péter Magyar, writes CNN. Top of the agenda seems to be dismantling the “propaganda machine” that his predecessor Viktor Orbán built during his sixteen years in power.

False rumors and instilling fear in the people have been two of Orbán’s cornerstones, something that has had major effects.

– I have heard stories of depressed people who hid under their beds after the election and did not dare to come out, says university professor Gábor Polyák.

According to Polyák, it is of utmost importance that Magyar succeeds in his transformation.

– If he does not take this chance, we will not get a new one.
