Shipping to and from Iranian ports has been reopened in the Strait of Hormuz and US warships have lifted their blockade, according to US Vice President J D Vance.

He defends the deal reached between Iran and the US and says that the US Congress will soon be informed of the details of the partly verbal agreement.

There were many questions about the US agreement with Iran when Vance called a press conference on Thursday morning local time in Washington DC. Like President Donald Trump, Vance played down the criticism directed at the Trump administration for the handling and content of the agreement.

“We plan to notify Congress very soon,” said Vance, adding that all members of Congress will be provided with a formal copy of the signed agreement with Iran, reports CNN.

The vice president confirmed that the US Navy has lifted the US blockade on oil and merchant ships heading to and from Iranian ports in the south. He stressed that further negotiations with Iran are intended to result in a more detailed agreement on the regulations for the strait in the Persian Gulf. Such a vital sea route “should never be used as a stranglehold on the global economy ever again,” said JD Vance.
