Calls for unity on Ceuta ahead of EU meeting
Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares calls for "solidarity" ahead of the EU's extraordinary meeting on the migrant crisis in the exclave of Ceuta, writes El País.
Ahead of the EU's extraordinary digital meeting on Tuesday, Spanish Foreign Minister Albares concludes that disinformation campaigns have been a "key element" that triggered the influx of migrants to Ceuta.
- Lies and fake news were spread about the Schengen area, Albares said on Spanish television, writes El País.
EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is also calling for unity as several EU countries have openly criticized Spain for its handling of the incident.
"The protection of all our external borders is a common European responsibility," she writes in a letter addressed to Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, AFP reports.
