The plan drawn up for Hamas’s disarmament and the future of the Gaza Strip does not reflect Israel’s positions, says Doron Spielman, spokesman for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The Gaza plan, which was praised by Donald Trump, was made public on Friday. The US president called the deal “a monumental step towards lasting peace and security”.

But Israel opposes the plan. According to Spielman, Hamas has rather rearmed and recruited forces since the fragile ceasefire began in October.

The actions show that Hamas is preparing for “further massacres like the one on October 7” in 2023, he says, adding that the plan developed by Trump’s peace council calls for Gaza to become a terror-free zone.

“That vision stands in direct contrast to the current reality and to Hamas’ stated intentions.”
