Trump calls off attacks on Iran
Israel to be included too
Donald Trump had ordered a major attack on Iran this weekend.
But the US president is now calling off the attacks – and at the same time claiming that the parties have agreed on the framework for an agreement.
"For the future good of the world", he writes on Truth Social.
Ahead of the weekend, US President Donald Trump ordered the US military to carry out new attacks on Iran. This as part of a "strong revenge" after Iranian attacks on a US base in Jordan.
Israel was also said to have participated in the attacks, was the message ahead of the weekend.
But shortly after 04, on the night of Sunday, Trump announces on Truth Social that he is calling off the planned attacks.
“Agreed to Call Off”
According to the president, the US has been asked by Iran and countries in the Middle East to wait.
“In light of this request, I have, for the future good of the world and to ensure the successful and prosperous survival of Iran, agreed to call off the attack, provided that we can quickly reach an agreement,” Trump writes.
According to him, the agreement will mean that the Strait of Hormuz will be “completely and totally open” and that there will be “an end to the Iranian nuclear threat.”
Furthermore, Trump says that Israel will not attack Iran this weekend, which was otherwise the plan from the beginning.
Conversation with the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia
In the same message on Truth Social, Trump also writes that the US is otherwise ready to attack.
“The United States is ready to go against the Islamic Republic of Iran, at levels of military terror, strength and power not seen since World War II.”
According to sources to both the AP and Axios, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman urged Trump in a phone call on Saturday not to escalate the conflict. The reason is said to be that Saudi Arabia expects to be the target of Iranian retaliatory attacks.
Iran has not yet commented on the reports.
