US President Donald Trump says talks with Iran will begin on Monday.

The announcement comes after Trump announced on Sunday night that the US is holding off on new attacks on Iran.

– Now we are talking to them in the form of a negotiation. It will begin tomorrow morning, he tells reporters aboard Air Force One.

According to Trump, Iran wants to avoid new attacks from the US.

– Of course they don't want to be attacked. They knew how big the attack would be because they saw it taking shape, says the president.

On Sunday, there were signals from Iran that attempts were underway to revive the memorandum of understanding that the two countries signed earlier in the summer.

Above all, mediators are trying to breathe new life into the agreement on a path to peace that the United States and Iran agreed to in mid-June.

“They know that the key issue is the Strait of Hormuz, so yes, there is an exchange of views,” said Hassan Ghashghavi, spokesman for the Iranian parliament’s National Security Commission, in a video interview.
