Like Sweden, Finland is joining France's nuclear deterrence initiative, Yle reports.
Finland has initiated "confidential" discussions with France, the Office of the President and the Ministry of Defense in Helsinki announced.
"It is primarily about strengthening the security of Finland and Europe," President Alexander Stubb said at a press conference, emphasizing that no nuclear weapons will be stationed in Finland during peacetime.
With Finland joining, all Nordic countries except Iceland are now part of the French nuclear initiative, which aims to strengthen European defense and reduce reliance on the US. The cooperation is expected to include joint exercises.
Sweden held an initial meeting with France as early as April.
