Train operator: High-profile politicians narrowly miss drone attack

A number of world-renowned political figures could have been hit by the Russian drone attack targeting a passenger train in eastern Ukraine on Sunday, reports *The Guardian*.

Sweden’s former Foreign Minister Carl Bildt was not the only one aboard a train bound for Poland at the time. Former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and former CIA Director David Petraeus were also on board a "diplomatic train" that was just a minute ahead of the train that was actually attacked.

"It is quite likely that the target of the Russian drone could just as easily have been the diplomatic train, which departed the station earlier than scheduled," the train operator stated, according to the newspaper.

No one is claiming that Russia was actively seeking to harm the politicians.

NATO chief Mark Rutte sees significant implications in Russia’s attack on a passenger train in western Ukraine on Sunday.

"The attack shows how desperate Putin has become. He thinks he can stop us from supporting Ukraine and undermine our unity, but he is wrong. Our response will be to increase support," said Rutte, according to AFP.

The Kremlin also commented on the attack on Sunday. Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said that Russia had targeted infrastructure used to deliver weapons to Ukraine. He did not comment further on the fact that they had come close to hitting a train filled with political leaders. “If I have understood correctly, we are talking about Ukrainian territory,” said spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, according to AFP.

“Our military is carrying out tasks across the entire territory and will continue to do so.”

Russian drone found on a beach in Poland: “Military”

A drone has been found on a beach along Poland’s Baltic coast, near the town of Rusinowo.

“An initial examination indicates that it is a military drone from Russia. Authorities are on site working to secure the area and the recovered equipment,” Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz wrote on X.

The discovery comes after a Russian drone struck a passenger train bound for the Polish capital, Warsaw, over the weekend.
