Donald Trump: “Vote for Netanyahu”
Donald Trump is backing Benjamin Netanyahu ahead of the election in Israel.
Today, he reshared a post he originally made last week on Truth Social.
“When you go to the polls, remember that Bibi has been an outstanding wartime prime minister,” he writes.
Israel holds elections tomorrow, and Donald Trump is supporting the incumbent Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu.
Last week, Trump officially endorsed Netanyahu in a lengthy statement, describing the Prime Minister as “strong, brave, and brilliant, despite facing enormous opposition.”
He added that “Netanyahu will never let you down.”
Today, he shared the post once again on the platform Truth Social.
According to Axios—citing two American sources with knowledge of the matter—Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has, in recent days, appealed to President Trump to show more public support for his campaign.
Axios reports that the White House views Netanyahu’s aggressive lobbying efforts as a “sign of desperation.”
According to Axios, Netanyahu spoke with Trump twice over the last few days, asking him to repost his message on Truth Social.
First election since October 7, 2023
This is the first national election to take place since the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023.
There has been almost no political debate regarding Israel’s conduct of the war in Gaza—which led to the issuance of an international arrest warrant for Netanyahu—or the country’s occupation of large parts of southern Lebanon and portions of Syria. Or the two wars that Israel has initiated against Iran.
All these issues already enjoy broad support.
Instead, the candidates have focused on Netanyahu’s leadership and moral character.
61 seats for an outright majority
Both major political blocs are dominated by parties that support Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank and oppose the creation of a Palestinian state.
None of the major candidates advocates for a return to the long-stalled peace process.
No single party is expected to come anywhere near the 61 seats required for an outright majority.
Whoever succeeds in assembling a coalition with the support of a parliamentary majority can form a government and become the next prime minister.
If no one succeeds in forming a majority coalition, Netanyahu’s government will continue as a caretaker government until a new election can be held in the coming months.
