Iran reportedly planning attacks against Americans abroad
Iran is in the final stages of planning attacks against American officials, according to reports from The New York Times and Axios.
This intelligence has prompted the U.S. State Department to issue a warning to all its personnel in the Middle East and to reduce staffing levels at certain embassies and consulates.
"Intelligence agencies have received information that Iran has significantly intensified its efforts to target American personnel. Iranian plans for lethal attacks against U.S. citizens have reached an advanced stage, both in the Middle East and in certain other countries," a report by Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton reportedly states.
It is unclear which countries are being referred to, but according to a source for The New York Times, the locations include the Middle East and parts of Europe. The threat level is considered the highest since the war began in February, although some question Iran's actual capacity to carry out attacks abroad.
Trump threatens Cuba and Iran with new "small" wars
Donald Trump took a bellicose tone during a campaign speech in Florida last night. Among other things, he threatened to launch another "small" war in Iran.
"We might carry out another little 'Epic Fury,'" the president said, referring to the U.S. military’s codename for the war against Iran.
He did not elaborate further. However, he went on to renew his threats against Cuba, stating that he intends to bring about regime change there.
"We’ll take care of Cuba on the way back from Iran. We’ll make a little stop along the way." He added that it would suffice for the United States’ “beautiful ships”—likely a reference to the country’s aircraft carriers—to remain off the coast of Cuba to cause the country to give up.
