France: Hundreds injured in protests

Several hundred people were injured during the weekend’s demonstrations and protests in France, which escalated into violence.

More than 1,400 people were taken into custody during the events in France over the weekend, Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez stated in an interview with  BFMTV.

According to the minister, 267 police officers were injured—three of them seriously—as were “more than 250” demonstrators. France’s centrist government accuses far-left factions of infiltrating the demonstrations and resorting to violence against police and security forces. The police and security forces, meanwhile, are being accused of widespread excessive use of force.
