The airport in Catania remains closed after ash rain from the Etna volcano.
The airport was supposed to open during the evening but is now still closed until Tuesday morning.
On Monday, local authorities closed Sicily's Catania airport after ash rain from the volcano Etna, which erupted last night, reports Repubblica.
The airport was supposed to open at 8:00 p.m. on Monday evening, but now has to postpone the opening time until 6:00 a.m. tomorrow, Tuesday.
Arriving flights have had to divert traffic to other airports on the island. The closure comes just days after the airport was allowed to reopen due to a terminal building fire in mid-July.
There is also a traffic ban for two-wheeled vehicles in Catania for at least two days. Bicycles, scooters and motorcycles are not allowed to ride because the road surface is covered with volcanic ash.
The ash rain from Etna keeps Catania airport closed.
