Email shows: Russia plans tunnel to Crimea
Russia is considering building an underwater tunnel connecting the country with the annexed Crimean peninsula. This is evident from emails sent between state-connected Russian and Chinese business leaders and which the Washington Post has seen. The emails have been shared by the Security Service of Ukraine and verified by the newspaper.
Through the tunnel project, Russia hopes to protect its military transports from Ukrainian attacks. The Krym bridge over the Kerch Strait, which is widely used by the Russian military, has been bombed by Ukrainian forces twice during the war.
But the construction of an underwater tunnel would face huge obstacles, according to experts. The project would likely cost many billions and take years to complete. If China gets involved, the country also risks economic sanctions from the West. Nevertheless, the email correspondence indicates that one of China's largest construction companies has signaled a willingness to participate in the project.

The world's largest iceberg is moving again after 37 years
The world's largest iceberg is moving again. The iceberg A23a, which is almost 4,000 square kilometers, has released from the seabed in the Weddel Sea where it ran aground 37 years ago, writes CBS News.
Why the giant iceberg - about three times the size of the city of New York - began to move is still unclear.
SMHI oceanographer Ola Kalén tells TT that it is not strange that the "megabergs" sooner or later come loose.
- They are slowly breaking down, but it is a huge iceberg so it takes a long time.
His guess is that the iceberg was eroded from below by warming ocean currents.
