First call to the hostage: "I'm not dead"
"I'm not dead, I'm not dead" - that's what 31-year-old Vetoon Phoomes reportedly said during a video call with his sister after being released from Hamas captivity along with nine other Thai citizens on Friday, reports Reuters.
Phoome had traveled to Israel to work in agriculture. He was taken hostage by Hamas during the October 7 attack.
Phoome's sister Rungarun Wichangern got the call a few hours after recognizing her brother in a picture of the released Thai hostages.
- My hands were shaking. I had hope again, says Wichanger to The Guardia
