The US-India relationship
US accuses India of planning murder in New York
The US Department of Justice accuses India of having planned the assassination of the prominent Sikh leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun in New York, several media reports.
52-year-old Nikhil Gupta is suspected of having planned to pay a torpedo for the murder and, according to the suspicions, he must have planned the murder together with Indian government officials.
"Together with India, the defendant planned to murder an American citizen with Indian roots here in New York City," said federal prosecutor Damian Williams in a statement.
The statement comes a week after the White House announced that an assassination plot against Gurpatwant Singh Pannun could be stopped.
Last fall, the Canadian government accused India of being behind the assassination of a Sikh leader with Canadian citizenship.

Fake press release tricked the media – al-Jaber is not resigning
During Wednesday afternoon, a press release has circulated that the president of COP28, Sultan al-Jaber, has resigned from his position as CEO of the United Arab Emirates state-owned oil company Adnoc. However, COP28 completely dismisses the information and writes on X that the press release is fabricated.
"The press release was not sent out by COP28 and has no basis in truth and can be completely dismissed as fake news."
The fake press release was picked up by several Swedish media and was spread, among other things, by the climate organization Fridays for Future.

The election in Poland
Politico: Tusk most powerful person in Europe
The Polish politician and former EU leader Donald Tusk tops the website Politico's list of Europe's most powerful.
Tusk, whose centrist coalition in the recent election became larger than conservative "Law and Justice" fights for a democratic, modern European vision.
On Monday, Polish President Andrzej Duda swore in a new conservative government led by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, who has been in office since 2017. He now has two weeks to rally support, something that looks impossible. Thus, Tusk looks set to become prime minister in December.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and French President Emmanuel Macron come in second and third place respectively.

Mysterious contagion in China
It was last week that reports that a previously undiagnosed type of pneumonia began to spread in the country. However,
experts have urged calm, stating that new flu types and viruses that
can develop during pandemics are often marked as local clusters of
outbreaks.
China: The situation surrounding the outbreak is under control
China's
Foreign Minister Wang Yi says that the authorities have control over
the situation surrounding the recent large outbreak of pneumonia among
mainly children, reports Reuters.
He
says outbreaks like these are common and something all countries are
forced to deal with, without providing any further details.
The country has previously stated that the outbreak is due to having dismantled the restrictions that applied during covid-19.
