The American warship USS Carney is said to have been attacked at ten o'clock on Sunday morning when it was outside Yemen's capital, Sana'a.
Several merchant ships are also said to have been attacked. According to sources to Reuters, two drones attacked.
- We are aware of the reports of the USS Carney and commercial vessels being attacked in the Red Sea and will provide information when it becomes available, the Pentagon told AP.
The Houthi militia denies
A Telegram account linked to Iran's Revolutionary Guard states that Houthi rebels in Yemen attacked the two civilian ships.
The Houthi militia admits to attacking the merchant ships with rockets and drones but denies having attacked the American ship.
Since the war between Hamas and Israel broke out, several ships in the Red Sea have been attacked. However, AP believes that the attack on the American ship means "a huge escalation".
