The murders of the homeless in Los Angeles
Man arrested on suspicion of serial murder of homeless people
A man has been charged with the murders of three homeless men in Los Angeles, US police say according to AP.
The suspect, 33-year-old Jerrid Joseph Powell, was already arrested on suspicion of involvement in a robbery-murder of a 42-year-old man. He was arrested earlier this week, and now the weapon found in his car at the time of his arrest has been linked to the other murders.
The murders prompted authorities to issue an appeal to homeless people in the city to seek shelter and avoid sleeping alone until an arrest is made.

The berry pickers
The Swedish Migration Agency: It is common for berry pickers to be used
It is common for Thai berry pickers working in Sweden to be exploited using double contracts. That's what the Migration Agency writes in a report that P4 Jämtland has seen.
An agreement - the one that employers show to, for example, the Swedish Migration Agency - can in those cases look completely normal. But in addition to that, there is also a secret second agreement, where the employee negotiates away part of his salary.
Now the Swedish Migration Agency wants to see increased cooperation between authorities to address the problems.
- It is not so easy to discover in each individual case, but this is something where the authority needs to cooperate with other authorities as well, says Veronica Lindstrand Kant at the Migration Agency, to the radio channel.

Water filters are becoming an option for many in drought-stricken Kenya
In Kenya, which is affected by drought, many rely on water filters from local aid organizations to get clean water, AP writes. The filters can clean water from dirty waterways – instead of residents having to buy ready-made water several times a week.
Many who do not have the opportunity to buy water have to resort to unsafe alternatives if they miss the filter distribution, according to the news agency.
- Most of the time you can't afford to even buy the salt water that is sold. So we have no choice but to use swamp water, says 46-year-old Joyce Ngui.
