Solar storm reaches Earth - could knock out the internet
A "massive" solar storm is expected to hit the earth during the day and could lead to a temporary shutdown of radio, internet and GPS. The Telegraph reports.
According to the newspaper, there is a risk that several solar storms will now merge into a larger one.
"Together with two previous storms that are already on their way, this means we get a triple whammy," writes space physicist Tamihta Skov on X.
Earth's more northerly latitudes are particularly affected, but the risk of widespread problems at the societal level is considered to be low.
Earlier this week, Nasa issued a warning for the solar storm, which may also mean an increased occurrence of aurora borealis.
