The Tel Aviv Stock Exchange denies unusual trading before the murder
The Tel Aviv stock exchange denies the information in an American research report that fraudsters may have made billions by having known in advance of the terrorist act of Hamas on October 7, writes Reuters.
- Nothing unusual happened in short positions on the stock exchange during the two months preceding the attack, says Yaniv Pagot, head of trading at the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, to the news agency.
According to the exchange, the report's authors confused the currency denominations of the major Israeli bank Leumi's share price and arrived at a short-selling profit of 3.2 billion instead of the correct amount of 32 million shekels.
In the report "Trading on terror?" short-selling researcher Joshua Mitts and former SEC Commissioner Robert J Jackson Jr also wrote that an Israel fund on Wall Street was heavily shorted in the days before the attacks. Mitts tells Reuters that they have now corrected the currency error, but claims that this does not affect the "very unusual" trading in the Israel Fund and other shortings noted by the researchers.
