The problems with mass tourism
Thousands flock to Mount Etna volcano – warned

Thousands of tourists are flocking to Mount Etna, Europe’s highest active volcano in Sicily, to watch the mountain’s spectacular eruption, writes The Guardian. But the rush is causing problems as cars block the path of rescue services.

On Monday, eight people, including two children, got lost on the mountain. They were only found several hours later after rescue services were called in. The day before, a man fell and fractured his foot, hours after four people disappeared in the area during the night.

Salvo Cocina, head of Sicily’s regional civil protection, describes the tourism of recent days as “crazy” and “extremely dangerous”. Mayor Carlo Caputo echoes the warnings and says that many people are moving dangerously close to the volcano.

– It exposes them to serious risks, as the lava can instantly vaporize the snow and violently throw out fragments and rocks.

150 false killer whales stranded – must be killed

More than 150 so-called false killer whales have stranded on the northwestern part of the island of Tasmania in Australia. Initially, authorities hoped that it would be possible to return them to the sea, but instead they will now be killed, reports ABC.

About 90 of the animals, which are a type of dolphin, were considered to have a chance of survival, but the staff who were supposed to put them back into the sea gave up after several failed attempts. Sea conditions meant that the animals were brought back to land time and time again.

One question that remains is why the dolphins swam ashore in the first place.

– An individual that is sick or lost can drag the rest of the group up to the beach with them, says Kris Carlyon from the parks and wildlife conservation authority PWS.

The car is believed to be a stolen Swedish car, according to information to Ekstrabladet. The man crashed into a fence at a restaurant near the airport and then fled on foot into the airfield itself.

The car chase ended at 3:30 a.m. but the man is still at large, according to police.

– In cooperation with the police, we have assessed that the driver is no longer on the airport premises, says press officer at Copenhagen Airport Julie Boll to Ekstrabladet.

At seven o'clock on Wednesday morning, the airspace will be open again, writes NTB.

The charges against Bolsonaro
Brazilian Attorney General: Bolsonaro wanted to poison Lula

Brazilian former President Jair Bolsonaro approved a plan to poison his successor Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, as part of a coup attempt to retain power, according to the country's Attorney General Paulo Gonet Branco.

Brazil's Attorney General has now formally charged the former president with attempting to carry out a coup d'état after his election loss in 2022. The indictment also includes an accusation of a plan to kill Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes.

If convicted of all the crimes he is accused of, he risks up to 43 years in prison.
