Today, the US-led talks on a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine were held.

Around half past one Swedish time, the meeting in Saudi Arabia ended.

Now the two superpowers want to work to end Russia’s war in Ukraine, reports Reuters.

Top diplomats from the US and Russia met today in the Saudi Arabian city of Riyadh to discuss ending the war in Ukraine.

Almost three years have passed since Russia’s full-scale invasion.

Among those present in Riyadh were US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. No Ukrainian representative was invited to the meeting.

Shortly after the meeting ended, around 1:30 p.m. Swedish time, the Russian adviser said that it “went well” and that it was a “serious conversation on all issues.” Reuters reports, citing Russian media outlets Tass and Interfax.

The conversation lasted just over four hours.

Wants to work for an end

– Rubio and Lavrov have agreed to appoint a high-level team to work on the way forward to end Russia’s war in Ukraine as soon as possible, Reuters reports.

But the decision on whether Russia should initiate such negotiations would ultimately fall to Putin, according to Russian adviser Ushakov, The Guardian writes.
