Epstein affair Norwegian connections

Mona Juul quits Norwegian Foreign Ministry after Epstein affair

Norway's former UN ambassador Mona Juul quits the Norwegian Foreign Ministry and retires in the wake of the Epstein affair, reports TV2.

This after several months of speculation surrounding her and her husband Terje Rød-Larsen's connections to the sex offender.

- This was not how Juul hoped to end a long career in the Norwegian foreign service, but she still believes it is the right thing to do, says her lawyer Thomas Skjelbred.

In February, 67-year-old Juul resigned as ambassador to Iraq and Jordan after she and her husband appeared in newly released Epstein documents. Among other things, it was stated that Epstein wanted to bequeath ten million dollars to the couple's children.

Juul is being investigated by Norway's economic crime agency for serious corruption.

  • The Norwegian court and Mette-Marit have been criticized for their lack of transparency and handling of the scandal, which has led to a sharp decline in trust in her.
  • Mette-Marit has publicly apologized and said that she was deceived and manipulated by Epstein, but experts and opinion polls show that many believe the answers are insufficient.
  • The scandal has led to Norwegian organizations breaking off cooperation, politicians demanding investigations, and the Storting deciding on an independent commission to examine the Epstein connections.
