Trump defied the estate – played "Hallelujah" anyway
Donald Trump inaugurated the 250th anniversary of the USA to the tune of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" – despite the fact that the administrator of Cohen's estate said no to the use of his music. This is what Billboard writes.
The inauguration of the Great American State Fair on the National Mall in Washington DC was held yesterday and marked the start of the celebration of the USA's birthday. Before the event, Cohen's estate protested that "Hallelujah" was planned to be used. Nevertheless, the artist Christopher Macchio performed the song when Trump took the stage. The whole thing was accompanied by bombers flying over the sky.
Americans: The founders would not like today's United States
More than three-quarters of Americans believe that the country's founders would be disappointed with how the United States has developed. This is shown by a Gallup poll conducted in connection with the 250th anniversary of the United States, reports CNN.
This opinion is echoed among both Democratic and Republican voters, although Republicans are somewhat less negative.
However, historian Tim Naftali has a different opinion. He believes that the founding fathers of the United States would be amazed at how the country has developed.
- Our language is the same, our principles are the same, but this country is far more powerful, far more diverse and in many ways far richer than they could have ever imagined, he says.
