After the attacks: Putin ready for peace talks
Russian President Vladimir Putin says his country is ready for peace talks with Ukraine, reports Sky News. The only requirement is that the negotiations are based on the talks in Istanbul in 2022.
Those talks were based, among other things, on Ukraine refraining from joining NATO, limiting the size of its armed forces and that the occupied Crimean peninsula would remain under Russian control.
The demands were rejected by Ukraine, and there are no signs that Russia has changed its position. Putin's opening for new negotiations comes at a time when Ukraine has put pressure on the Russian oil industry through repeated attacks on oil terminals and oil refineries.
Several Russian regions have imposed restrictions on the sale of fuel as a result, and the country's Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandr Novak has suggested that an export ban on diesel may need to be introduced.
Ukraine has not yet commented on the Russian move.
Source: Trump has urged Zelensky to act offensively
Ukraine is convinced that it has the support of the US and Donald Trump to carry out attacks on Russia. This is stated by a high-ranking Ukrainian source to the Kyiv Independent.
At the latest meeting between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Trump is said to have urged Zelensky to “act more offensively”.
– Trump says that he does not believe that Putin will do anything without pressure. President Trump believes in peace through strength, says the source with insight into the meeting.
During the meeting, Zelensky is also said to have raised the idea of holding peace talks between Ukraine and Russia in the US, something that Trump reportedly appreciated.
That Zelensky raised the proposal is also confirmed by American sources to the Kyiv Independent. However, they assess that such a meeting is not likely in the near future.
