Olympic canoeist's lawyer: "It's not illegal to touch water"

Former Olympic canoeist David Hearn denies that he vandalized the water surface at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC, reports The Hill.

Hearn was arrested at the end of the week on suspicion of vandalism at the facility, which has been plagued by several problems after Donald Trump's multi-million dollar renovation. Among other things, paint has peeled off from the bottom and the water surface has been affected by extensive algae growth. Trump has claimed that the problems are due to vandalism, and the area is now guarded by soldiers from the National Guard.

Hearn's lawyer says that they will dispute the charges "vigorously".

- It's not illegal to touch water, says the lawyer in MS NOW.

More and more young people in Japan are being arrested for "upskirting"

Despite stricter legislation, "upskirting" is still one of the most common sex crimes in Japan. The term, in Japanese “panko-satsu”, means taking unauthorized photos under someone’s skirt. Previously, the most common perpetrator was a middle-aged man, but in recent years it has become increasingly common for the perpetrator to be a child, writes CNN.

In 2024, the proportion of minors reported for the crime increased almost sixfold compared to the previous year. The figure increased even more last year. Several factors are driving the development, says child rights activist and cybersecurity expert Sumire Nagamori. She highlights, among other things, the fact that smartphones mean that young people today have constant access to cameras and the internet, and that this type of crime often has a kind of “copycat” behavior, that is, the young people copy each other.

– I was shocked when I learned that this happened in schools. The perpetrator could be a classmate and the pictures could end up online, she says.
