Middle East crisis Iran war

US launches new wave of attacks on Iran

The US has launched a new wave of attacks on targets in Iran, the US military command for the Middle East Centcom said on X.

"The attacks are aimed at Iran's military capabilities that are used to threaten ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz," Centcom wrote.

The US also launched attacks on Iran during the night and afternoon Swedish time. At the same time, Iran has attacked targets in nearby countries that have US military bases. Among other things, Kuwait states that its military shot down four cruise missiles and 21 drones from Iran. No one is reported to have been injured.

US attacked Iran again: "Reduces their capabilities"

At 12 o'clock on Wednesday, Swedish time, the US began a 90-minute wave of attacks against Iran, according to Reuters. The attacks are said to have targeted defense systems along the Iranian coast.

“The attacks are intended to further reduce the military capabilities of Iranian forces that have attacked commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz,” the US Army’s Central Command wrote in a post on X.

On Wednesday night, the US carried out airstrikes against Iran for the fourth consecutive day. According to Iranian authorities, at least 30 civilians have been killed in recent days, Reuters reports.

At 10 p.m. on Tuesday evening – Swedish time – the US resumed its blockade of Iranian ports.

Analysis: "Iran is making it very difficult for the Gulf states"

By repeatedly attacking other countries around the Strait of Hormuz during the war against the US, Iran's relationship with its neighbors is becoming increasingly strained. This is according to Jordan's former foreign minister Marwan Muasher, who is now affiliated with the Carnegie think tank, in an interview with Al Jazeera.

– Iran must understand that they must be part of the region and that this means they must stop interfering in the affairs of other countries, says Muasher and continues:

– They are making it very difficult for the Gulf states to engage in any form of diplomatic solution to this conflict.

In an analysis in The Jerusalem Post, Seth J Frantzman writes at the same time that Iran's attacks have made the Gulf states increasingly show solidarity with each other.

After Iran recently attacked two Saudi oil tankers, several countries have stood behind the Saudi protests. Frantzman writes that it is clear that Saudi Arabia wants the backing of the other countries in the region – but that it remains to be seen whether it is also ready to strike back militarily against Iran.
