Sources: EU wants to impose sanctions on 1,600 companies

The EU plans to impose sanctions on more than 1,600 companies considered to be supporting Russia's war in Ukraine, Bloomberg News reports, citing sources.

The companies affected have a combined annual turnover of more than $20 billion and employ more than 265,000 people, according to the sources.

The package must be approved by all EU member states and is aimed at companies deemed to be part of Russia's military industry.

According to reports, member states are expected to receive the proposal in the coming weeks, with the aim of foreign ministers adopting the sanctions in October.

Zelensky: Talked about the production of Patriots

The meeting between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House has now ended, the Ukrainian president writes on Telegram.

In the post, Zelensky thanks Trump for his support for Ukraine and for the attempts to achieve peace. He also states that the two leaders discussed a license to manufacture Patriot missiles in Ukraine, as well as other ideas that could contribute to the country's defense.

Zelensky has arrived at the White House

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has arrived at the White House ahead of his meeting with Donald Trump and the funeral of Senator Lindsey Graham, reports the BBC.

Later in the day, Zelensky is also expected to meet with members of Congress in the hope of gaining support for the sanctions package against Russia that Graham helped push through.

According to information provided to The Hill, all 100 senators have also been invited to a meeting with the Ukrainian president.
