Report: Invisible Marco Rubio pulling strings from the background
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is not outwardly part of the negotiations with Iran, yet he plays a key role in efforts to end the war. This is according to sources speaking to NBC News.
Rubio has maintained a low public profile but has nonetheless been advising envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff. The same applies to talks regarding Ukraine and Russia.
The arrangement is highly unusual. NBC notes that several previous Secretaries of State have held far more prominent roles.

Republican calls for Hegseth’s impeachment
Republican Congressman Thomas Massie is calling for the impeachment of Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, reports The Hill. Massie believes Hegseth violated the Constitution by participating in the decision to launch the war in Iran without congressional approval.
A vote is expected within two days, though it remains unclear whether it will garner support among other Republicans. Thomas Massie is an outspoken critic of Donald Trump and lost his primary election in Kentucky earlier this spring.
