Kremlin: Trump’s proposal for ceasefire a "good idea"
The Kremlin has welcomed Donald Trump’s "idea" regarding a pause in attacks on energy infrastructure.
"We have seen President Trump’s statement. We think it is a good idea, a good initiative. We are in contact with the Americans," said spokesman Dmitry Peskov, according to AFP.
Trump made the statement on Monday. He claimed that both Russia and Ukraine had agreed not to attack each other's energy facilities, following complaints he had made days earlier that the attacks were driving up diesel prices. However, neither Kyiv nor Moscow confirmed that an agreement had been reached.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded that the proposal is effectively Ukraine’s own, but that it depends on Russia agreeing to it.
"Ukraine is not convinced that Russia has any desire to abide by an agreement," he wrote on Telegram.
In July, Russia imposed restrictions on diesel exports to address domestic fuel shortages caused by Ukrainian attacks on the country's energy facilities.
