Saudi Arabia and Egypt: "Strong responses"
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and the Egyptian president have met in Cairo to discuss the militarized situation surrounding the Bab al-Mandab Strait and the advance of the Houthi movement.
The two leaders affirmed that "free and safe navigation" through the Bab al-Mandab Strait in the Red Sea and the Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf must be secured, and they pledged "strong" responses to further attacks.
President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi reportedly assured Crown Prince bin Salman of Egypt's support for Saudi Arabia's actions to date, with regard to conflicts involving Iran and Yemen's Islamist Houthi movement.
Shipping lanes in both the Persian Gulf and the Red Sea are vital to Saudi oil exports. The Kingdom has temporarily shut down a key domestic oil pipeline after it was attacked by a drone launched from Iraq, according to Saudi authorities.
