When Donald Trump recently visited Ireland, he criticized the Ukrainian attacks on Russian energy facilities.
"Stop knocking out the diesel in Russia; it causes fuel shortages," Trump said at a press conference.
"We’ve spoken to Zelenskyy about it; there are many other targets, but don't hit the diesel—it hurts the world," he continued.
In recent months, Ukraine has stepped up its attacks on targets including Russian refineries. These are viewed as a key source of revenue for the Russian military.
Zelenskyy confirms
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy writes on X that Ukraine has proposed an agreement—involving its partners and Russia—that "would stop the destruction of critical infrastructure."
"A de-escalation step regarding critical infrastructure could be the first step toward peace," he writes on X.

Trump has claimed that rising global fuel prices are a consequence of the war in Ukraine—not a result of a US war with Iran or the difficulties ships face passing through the Strait of Hormuz, as many experts have argued.
Now, Ukraine and Russia have agreed to a ceasefire, Donald Trump writes on Truth Social on Monday.
"Ukraine has agreed not to attack Russian energy targets." "Russia has agreed to do the same!"
He continues:
"The rise in global diesel prices is primarily due to the war between Russia and Ukraine, not Iran."
