Several of Ronald Reagan's staff are backing Pence
Tonight's Republican primary debate is being held in the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in California, and ahead of the debate, a handful of politicians and officials from Reagan's staff have sided with Mike Pence, writes CNN.
They believe that the former vice president is the candidate who can best "carry on Reagan's legacy."
"We wholeheartedly support him becoming the next president of the United States," they write in a letter.
According to FivethirtyEight's latest figures, Pence is fifth in opinion among the Republican candidates, with only 4.6 percent support. One Donald Trump receives 54 percent support, i.e. more than the other nine candidates combined.

Analysis: Ron DeSantis must win or lose
Tonight at 03:00, Swedish time, the Republican presidential candidates meet in a second televised debate. In an analysis before the debate, Vox News' Zack Beauchamp writes that the debate doesn't really matter since Donald Trump is not participating.
"It's a performance, a show, a pantomime: a flashy spectacle with almost no relevance to the outcome of the 2024 primaries," he writes.
He believes that there is hardly any doubt that it is ex-president Donald Trump who will be the party's presidential candidate.
CNN's Eric Bradner, Gregory Krieg and Jeff Zeleny write in a quick analysis that it was Ron DeSantis who in advance looked to be able to topple Trump from the Republican throne, but that he has been getting worse in public opinion lately. It is "now or never" for DeSantis, they write.
"Trump's absence gives the governor (DeSantis) a chance to stand out without being attacked by the former president," they write.
