The war in Sudan
The United Arab Emirates is reportedly fueling the Sudanese war
Under the guise of rescuing refugees, the UAE is pushing the war in Sudan, supplying one side with powerful weapons and nursing its wounded soldiers. This is stated by around ten former government sources in the US, Europe and Africa for the New York Times.
According to the sources, the UAE supports the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which is fighting the country's army and has links to Russia's Wagner Group.
The aid operation is said to be controlled from a base in the western neighboring country of Chad, right on the border. Emirati cargo planes have landed there almost daily since June, according to satellite images and sources.
According to the NYT, it is an example of how the United Arab Emirates, a US ally, is using its wealth and weapons to gain influence in Africa. The country itself claims that it is a purely humanitarian operation.

US sanctions against Russian company with RSF connection
The United States has introduced a series of new sanctions against actors it accuses of destabilizing the situation in war-torn Sudan, Reuters reports.
They are directed, among other things, against Ali Karti, former foreign minister under long-term president Omar al-Bashir who was deposed in a military coup in 2021.
The Russian company Aviatrade is also subject to sanctions. They are accused of collusion with the Sudanese company GSK Advance Company, which, according to the US Treasury Department, supports the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
In the war, which has been going on since April, the RSF is fighting the Sudanese army.
