Milley: Our military does not obey a wannabe dictator
In his resignation speech on Friday, US Defense Chief Mark Milley seemed to take a dig at former President Donald Trump, several media outlets write.
In the speech, Milley said that the US military is unique because it does not swear an oath "to a king, a queen, a tyrant or a dictator."
- And we don't swear an oath to a wannabe dictator. We swear an oath to the Constitution and to the idea of America - and we are willing to die to defend it, he continued, according to the AP.
Milley was appointed by Trump in 2018, but they have butted heads several times since then, particularly during and after the storming of the Capitol.
In the days after the storming, Milley called Beijing to assure them that the United States was still a stable country and was not planning an attack on China.
"It is such an outrageous act that the punishment in ancient times would have been DEATH!" Trump wrote on his social media network Truth Social last week.
