Taiwan's opposition did not agree on common candidate
Taiwan's two opposition parties each registered a presidential candidate for the upcoming election, according to Reuters.
The two parties have tried, but failed, to agree on a common candidate to challenge the ruling DPP.
Lai Ching-te, vice-president and DPP's presidential candidate, leads widely in opposition polls.
He has also used the opposition's difficulties in getting along as material for his outbursts.
- Should we dare hand over the governance of the country to these people? Obviously not. Of course, this is not okay.
The opposition is united in advocating closer relations with China, while the DPP pursues a harder line. The election will be held on January 13 next year.

The Foxconn billionaire withdraws from the election: "Not my spirit"
Billionaire and company founder Terry Gou withdraws from the Taiwanese presidential election, writes The Straits Times.
The announcement comes just a week after Gou managed to gather enough signatures to run.
- I withdraw my body but not my spirit. Restart, reset, repeat, Gou said in a statement.
Terry Gou has previously warned that Taiwan risks becoming the "next Ukraine" if it does not normalize its relationship with China. Guo is the founder of the company Foxconn, which is considered one of Apple's most important subcontractors.
