Zelensky fires the head of the country's special forces  

Viktor Chorenko, who has been head of Ukraine's special forces since last summer, has been fired by the country's president, Volodymyr Zelenskyi. This is reported by Bloomberg with reference to Ukrainian state media. 

 

Chorenko is forced to leave the post with immediate effect and Colonel Serhij Lupantjuk takes it over. It is not clear what is behind the decision.

New Russian robot attacks hit infrastructure  

10 out of 24 Ukrainian regions were hit by drone or robot attacks from Russia overnight Friday. This is stated by Ukrainian authorities according to AP.  

 

Ukraine has previously warned that Russia, just like last winter, is trying to knock out Ukraine's energy supply during the cold months with the help of drones and robots. 

 

- We are aware that as winter approaches, Russian terrorists will try to cause even greater suffering, says Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in a statement on Telegram.  

 

The Russian shelling of Ukraine has been unusually intense over the past week, according to several media. According to The Independent, 118 Ukrainian villages were hit overnight in what they describe as the most powerful bombardment this year.

Russia on new sanctions: "They will have to wait in vain"  

The United States faces new sanctions against Russia as a result of the war in Ukraine, several media outlets write. It is about targeted sanctions linked to several different companies which, among other things, will make it more difficult for Russia to buy suicide drones. 

 

- This is a continuation of the strategy that they believe will lead to a "strategic defeat" for us. But they will have to wait in vain, says Maria Zakharova, spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry to state television.  

 

The new sanctions target 130 different people and companies and focus on preventing manufacturers in other countries from selling goods that could be used in Russia's war against Ukraine.
