Expert: Ukraine locked in trench warfare - reminiscent of the First World
War
The war in Ukraine has become locked trench warfare – the 150-mile front has barely moved for weeks and both sides are buried in increasingly difficult conditions.
That's what Aleksandr Golts, a Russian military analyst in exile in Sweden, tells Ekot and compares it to the Battle of the Somme in 1916.
- Now it looks more and more like the First World War.
Golts adds that the world appears to be heading into a new, long, cold war.
The photo of a deadlocked trench warfare is shared by Ukraine's Ministry of Defense Valery Zaluzhny. In an interview with The Economist, he says that this benefits Russia, and that a "massive technological leap" is required to break the deadlock.

von der Leyen: We will make Russia pay for its war
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is visiting Ukraine and is expected to speak in the Ukrainian parliament today, according to Reuters.
The visit, which was not announced in advance, comes just three days before the EU is expected to present a report on how far Ukraine is from meeting the requirements to join the union.
"I am here to discuss Ukraine's path to membership," writes Ursula von der Leyen under a picture of her and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on X, adding:
"And how we are going to make Russia pay for its war of aggression."

Zelenskyi: We are tired - but no deadlock
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi rejects reports in recent days that the fighting with Russia has turned into trench warfare.
- Time has passed and the people are tired, but this is not a stalemate, says Zelenskyj during a press conference together with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Kyiv according to AFP.
Both the US and the EU are struggling to agree on the design of their aid packages for Ukraine, which has led to conflicts within the US Congress and delayed planned EU aid to the value of 50 billion dollars, according to the Financial Times.
