The US pledges three billion dollars to the UN Climate Fund
The United States promises a contribution of three billion dollars to the UN's Green Climate Fund, announced Vice President Kamala Harris at COP28, according to AFP. The fund was created in 2010 and is the largest international fund to help developing countries reduce their climate footprint.
- Today we show through action how the world can and should face this crisis, said Harris in Dubai.
It is the US's first contribution to the fund since 2014. In total, the fund manages over $20 billion.
At the same time, the Biden administration has presented the final rules to bring down the US oil and gas industry's methane emissions, US media reports. It is part of a global plan to reduce climate emissions and, according to the White House, should "turbocharge" the United States' climate efforts.
