Israel's security cabinet has approved a ceasefire agreement with Lebanon, Reuters reports, citing Israel's Channel 12.

- If Hezbollah breaks the agreement, we will strike against them, said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a televised speech, according to Reuters.

Netanyahu: "Om Hizbollah bryter mot avtalet kommer vi attackera"

Netanyahu: "If Hezbollah violates the agreement, we will attack"

Netanyahu says he will present the ceasefire proposal to his ministers on Tuesday, who need to hammer through the decision before it becomes a reality. He also says that a ceasefire in Lebanon means that you can now focus on the threat from Iran, reports Reuters.

The announcement comes after Israel's security cabinet met about the proposal earlier in the day.

The exact terms of the truce and when it will begin, if so, were not clear from Netanyahu's speech. Nor does it affect Israel's war with Hamas in Gaza, AP reports.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs: Positive

Sweden's Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard (M) views the ceasefire positively.

"It is very positive that Israel's security cabinet has approved a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah. The civilian suffering has for a long time been great on both sides," she writes in a comment to Aftonbladet and continues:

"The government continues to call for a ceasefire in Gaza, the release of the hostages and the resumption of serious efforts towards a two-state solution".

Attacks on Beirut

Just hours before Netanyahu's statement, it was reported that Israel carried out large-scale attacks on the Lebanese capital, Beirut.

Hezbollah has not commented on the proposal.

According to US President Joe Biden, the truce is valid for 60 days.

- Let's be clear: Israel did not start the war, says Joe Biden during the press conference.

          Rök över Beirut.
