Trump appoints lockdown critic as head of agency
Donald Trump appoints the Stanford physician and economist Jay Bhattacharya as the new head of the state research institute NIH, The New York Times reports.
"Together, Jay and Robert Kennedy (new Secretary of Health) will restore the NIH to a gold standard for medical research as they investigate the causes and solutions to America's greatest health challenges," Trump writes on his Truth Social platform.
Bhattacharya wrote a lockdown-critical thesis during the corona pandemic, making him a central figure in the public health debate. He has also wanted to see an overhaul of the NIH and limited power for officials within the institute.
