Zelensky: The war ends faster with Trump

On Tuesday, 1,000 days have passed since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Now Zelenskyy has to face a new reality with a new world leader in power - something he seems to be somewhat relieved about.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi made clear on Friday the impact he believes US President-elect Donald Trump will have on the war between his homeland and Russia.
Zelenskyi said that the war will "end earlier" now that Donald Trump has been elected president of the United States next year.
But he is not completely optimistic about the situation. In a radio interview broadcast on Saturday, the president of Ukraine stated that Russia is advancing and that the situation in eastern Ukraine is difficult, writes The Guardian.
He also said Russian President Vladimir Putin was not interested in agreeing to a peace deal.
And according to American law, the president of Ukraine may only meet Trump after his inauguration in January, says Zelensky. Before that, he gets to talk to a representative or a counselor, but that's not something he wants.
On Trump's priority list
But Zelenskyi and Trump have already talked to each other. According to himself, Zelensky had a "constructive conversation" with Donald Trump after he was elected the next president of the United States, writes the BBC. One of Trump's priorities is to end Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, since the support that the country is now sending is a significant drain on US resources.
Trump himself said on Friday in a speech at his Mar-a-Lago resort that “We will work very hard for Russia and Ukraine. It has to stop.”
But mediate with Zelenskyi - not with Putin
Yesterday, Zelenskyj also had time to comment on the conversation that Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz had on Friday, where the Russian president was, among other things, urged to withdraw his forces from Ukraine. In contrast, Zelenskyi had a critical tone, because he wants Putin to be isolated. Therefore, he said that this conversation opened "Pandora's box."
The President of Ukraine said that “now there can be other talks, other talks. Just a lot of words,” and means that this is exactly what Putin wants. "It is extremely important for him to weaken his isolation and to conduct regular negotiations."
The Kremlin said the call had come at Germany's request, and it was the first time the two leaders had spoken in two years.
