US delegation to travel to Saudi Arabia tonight
The US delegation is traveling to Saudi Arabia tonight to negotiate the Ukraine war, envoy Steve Witkoff said, according to Reuters.
“Hopefully, we will make really big progress,” he said.
Witkoff is traveling with national security adviser Mike Waltz. It has previously been reported that Secretary of State Marco Rubio, currently visiting Israel, will also participate.
The Kremlin has not confirmed who it is sending, but according to sources to Bloomberg, it is Putin’s foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov, the head of the SVR intelligence service Sergei Naryshkin, and the head of the state investment fund RDIF, Kirill Dmitriev.
It is unclear whether Ukraine will participate – on Saturday, Zelensky said that it had not received an invitation.

US Secretary of State: Ukraine will be in the “real negotiations”
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is downplaying expectations for the peace talks in Saudi Arabia, saying that it “will not be easy” to reach an agreement. This is reported by AFP.
– Nothing is clear yet [...] A peace process is not something that is discussed at a meeting, he says.
The US delegation is traveling to Saudi Arabia tonight, but there is still no sign that Ukraine has been invited to the negotiations. Yesterday, Zelensky denied that this is the case.
– I don’t know what it’s about [...] It doesn’t seem like a serious conversation, he said at the Munich Security Conference, according to Politico.
Rubio adds that Ukraine will be involved when the “real negotiations” begin.
You should never trust anyone in geopolitics – the coming days and weeks will show whether Putin is serious or not, is the minister’s message.
Ukrainian source: Has not been invited to the talks
Ukraine has still not been invited to the negotiations between the US and Russia in Saudi Arabia this week, and will not send a delegation. This was stated by a senior Ukrainian government source for the BBC on Sunday.
President Zelenskyj also said on Saturday that he had no knowledge of the plans, according to Politico.
– It does not seem like a serious conversation, I think.
The messages from the US regarding who will participate in the negotiations have been very contradictory in recent days.
Ukrainian envoy Keith Kellogg has said that Ukraine “of course” will be present. On Sunday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio instead said that Ukraine would be invited when the “real negotiations” begin.
Similarly, Vice President JD Vance said on Friday that other European countries should of course be included – only to be contradicted by Kellogg the next day.
