Moscow: Putin and Trump want to end tense relationship
Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump want to end the tensions that have strained US-Russian relations since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. This is what Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said according to AFP.
The decision came in a conversation between Putin and Trump last week in which they agreed on the necessity of "leaving the completely abnormal relations behind us".
- The presidents agreed that dialogue must be resumed, he says.
The Kremlin also states that they are releasing an American citizen who was imprisoned in the country ahead of the talks.
At the same time, Washington confirms that delegations from the US and Russia will meet in Saudi Arabia tomorrow.
Kyiv resident: The negotiations could trigger a new world war
This week, the US and Russia are expected to meet to try to start talks on Ukraine - but without Ukraine. In the severely war-torn country, there is great concern about what lies ahead. Kyiv resident Valerij Semenij tells AP that he believes the peace negotiations could trigger a third world war.
– We are already at war, but poor Europe. I think this means another step closer to a world war, he tells the news agency according to TV4 Nyheterna.
Ukrainian Natalija Tverdivska lives in Södertälje and is also very worried about Donald Trump's future peace plan for Ukraine. Everyone in the country wants peace, but that the US and Russia should decide on Ukraine's future is completely unacceptable, she says in SR's Studio Ett.
– I find Trump to be very unpredictable, and there is no security there.

US: Ukraine to participate in a "second negotiation track"
Talks between the US and Russia about the war in Ukraine are to begin on Tuesday, several sources tell CNN. But Ukraine has not received an invitation – instead, a “second negotiation track” is being discussed in which Kyiv will participate.
According to US envoy to Ukraine Keith Kellogg, the “second negotiation track” will take place in the Ukrainian capital this week.
US President Donald Trump said yesterday that Ukraine will be part of the negotiations, but did not specify how this would happen.

Zelenskyj: Putin plans to invade a NATO country
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj warns in an interview with NBC News that Russia is preparing for an invasion of a NATO country as early as this summer. Ukraine is said to have intelligence information about a Russian military exercise in Belarus, which according to Zelenskyj is the country from which Russia plans to attack.
According to the president, Poland or Lithuania are in the danger zone.
– I don’t know when, but it will happen, he says, adding that they suspect that Vladimir Putin “wants to go to war with NATO”.
In light of this, Zelensky believes that it is of utmost importance that NATO stands united against Russia.

The world's response
Great Britain ready to send troops to Ukraine
Great Britain is ready to send soldiers to Ukraine to uphold a peace agreement, writes Prime Minister Keir Starmer in The Telegraph.
"Potentially risking British people being harmed is an enormous responsibility - but we must be ready to do our bit for Europe."
This is the first time a British prime minister has explicitly opened up to sending peacekeeping troops to Ukraine.
The announcement comes the day before the European crisis summit in France.
