Middle East Crisis Iran War

Israel has attacked important industry at large gas field

Israel has attacked Iran's largest petrochemical plant, which is part of the country's gigantic South Pars gas field, with great force, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said in a statement. Iranian media also reported attacks on the facility in the Iranian city of Asaluyeh.

According to Israel Katz, about half of Iran's oil and gas-based products are manufactured at the site. He describes it as a severe economic blow to the country.

South Pars is the world's largest gas field and is located below sea level in the Persian Gulf, writes AP. When Israel attacked the field in March, Iran responded with a flurry of attacks on energy infrastructure in the Gulf countries.

IAEA warns after attack near nuclear power plants in Iran

The UN atomic energy agency IAEA confirms that military strikes have hit near Iran's nuclear power plant in Bushehr, Reuters reports. According to the agency, the facility was not damaged, but one impact occurred only 75 meters away.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi warns that continued attacks could lead to a serious radiological accident. He writes on X that the US and Israeli attacks must stop.

The Bushehr facility is located on the Persian Gulf coast and is the country's only one in operation.

Iran rejects US proposal for a ceasefire

Iran rejects a proposal for a ceasefire, state media reported according to Reuters.

Instead, the country wants to see a permanent end to the war and has presented a ten-point response. It includes, among other things, eased sanctions, reconstruction, a protocol for safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz and an end to conflicts in the region.

The proposal for a ceasefire presented by the US is said to have included an immediate ceasefire for 45 days.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry has previously described the proposal as “extremely ambitious, unusual and illogical”.

Later on Tuesday, US President Donald Trump said that Tuesday’s deadline was final. At the same time, he said that the Iranian counter-demands were significant, but not good enough, writes AFP.
