Finland: Continued confidence in the government
The Finnish government and Prime Minister Petteri Orpo will continue to receive confidence from the Riksdag in a vote on Tuesday evening.
The vote of confidence was prompted by allegations of corruption surrounding the construction of a large arena project, Garden-Helsinki.
The votes for Orpo (Saml) fell 101–90, Yle reports. In the vote on the entire government, the vote figures were the same.
Before the vote, a debate on the subject was held in the Riksdag for nine hours.
Uncertainties in connection with the granting of hundreds of millions of state aid for the large arena project led the opposition to demand the resignation of the prime minister.
On Monday, Orpo announced that the project in its current form no longer has the government's support.
The Riksdag was summoned in the middle of the summer recess, which rarely happens in Finland.
