Trump dismisses idea: US will not arrest Netanyahu

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will never be arrested while in the United States, President Donald Trump writes on Truth Social. This weekend, New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani said he is looking into that possibility.

Trump writes that Netanyahu is fighting Iran, which is killing protesters and American soldiers.

“The only people who should be arrested are the people who led Iran into this unprecedented spiral of death and destruction,” he writes.

Netanyahu may possibly travel to New York during the UN meeting in September.

New York Mayor Wants to Arrest Netanyahu – If He Can

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is a war criminal who belongs in the International Court of Justice in The Hague, says New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani in a long interview with the New York Times.

During the election campaign, Mamdani promised to arrest Netanyahu if he ever set foot in New York, in accordance with the international wanted list. Now Israel's leaders are considering whether he should attend the UN meeting in September.

Mamdani says he is having "active discussions" with his lawyers about whether he has the legal right to give the New York police such an order.

- We will do everything that the law of New York City allows me to do, but we will not write our own laws to achieve that. 

Hamas appoints Khalil al-Hayya as new political leader

Terrorist-labeled Hamas has appointed Khalil al-Hayya as its new political leader, AFP reports.

Al-Hayya was previously Hamas's chief negotiator in indirect peace talks with Israel.

He succeeds Yahya al-Sinwar, who was killed in an Israeli attack in 2024. Since then, Hamas has been led by a leadership council.

- Khalil al-Hayya was elected by an overwhelming majority. The political bureau will meet in Istanbul within a few days to form committees and begin a restructuring of Hamas' leadership, a senior Hamas official told AFP.

According to the source, al-Hayya is expected to formally take up the post next week.
