Saab and Embraer enter into agreement on expanded Jas production
Saab and Brazilian Embraer have entered into an agreement in principle that opens up the production of an additional 20 Gripen aircraft in Brazil, according to a press release. Embraer is responsible for final assembly at its factory in Gaviao Peixoto as a complement to Saab's factory in Linköping.
The agreement will increase delivery capacity to meet global demand for the Swedish fighter aircraft.
- The partnership between Saab and Embraer strengthens our long-term commitment in Latin America, says Saab CEO Micael Johansson in a statement.
Minister of Defense raking for new Gripen deal
Minister of Defense Pål Jonson (M) is traveling to the Philippines, which has expressed interest in Saab's Jas Gripen, reports DI.
The country is evaluating a total of five fighter jets in its procurement, and Jonson has "had a dialogue linked to" the interest in Jas Gripen.
- Then the Philippines will have to settle for the solution they think is best, he tells DI.
According to the Minister of Defense, there may also be interest in Saab's Global Eye reconnaissance aircraft.
In just a few weeks, Saab has secured contracts worth 115 billion kronor with NATO, Poland and Ukraine - deals that would not have been possible without NATO membership, Pål Jonson tells DI.
