Report: Pentagon kept quiet about injured soldiers

Dozens of American soldiers were reportedly injured in Iranian attacks on American forces last week. But the US Department of Defense Pentagon has not reported the attacks, the number of injured or the material damage caused by the attacks. This is stated by several anonymous officials for the New York Times.

A military source tells the newspaper that the US armed forces are not required to publish information about injured soldiers, especially not when they quickly return to duty. But the practice has previously been to do so anyway.

The newspaper describes it as the Pentagon withholding information about the attacks and thus not giving the public a complete picture of how the war is going. The Pentagon, for its part, believes that it is information that

Another American soldier has been confirmed dead in an Iranian attack in the Middle East – and the US retaliated overnight. This is the ninth day in a row that the attacks have taken place.

– We hit them very hard again last night. And we did so to honor the soldiers who were killed, says Donald Trump according to the AP.

Iran responds with new attacks on American bases in Bahrain and Kuwait.

Bloomberg and the AP write that the attacks are succeeding each other at an increasingly rapid pace and that the countries are moving closer to a full-scale war. The situation now risks slipping out of everyone's control:

"Although both Washington and Tehran initially seemed interested in keeping the confrontation within certain limits, the conflict is now moving worryingly close to a point where these limits could collapse," writes Danny Citrinowicz, an analyst at the think tank INSS, on X.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is a war criminal who belongs in the International Court of Justice in The Hague, says New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani in a long interview with the New York Times.

During the election campaign, Mamdani promised to arrest Netanyahu if he ever set foot in New York, in accordance with the international arrest warrant. Now Israel's leaders are considering whether he should attend the UN meeting in September.

Mamdani says he is having "active discussions" with his lawyers about whether he has the legal right to give the New York police such an order.

- We will do everything that the law of New York City allows me to do, but we will not write our own laws to achieve that.
