Ukraine: Deadly Russian attack on cargo ship

At least five people have been killed in a Russian attack on a Turkish-owned cargo ship loaded with grain from Ukraine, the Ukrainian navy writes on Telegram.

Russian cruise missiles have hit a merchant ship loaded with grain in the Black Sea, according to the Ukrainian navy. Five people are reported to have been killed and another five of the crew are missing.

According to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha, several of the crew are from Syria and India.

– A Ukrainian pilot died, as well as four crew members, says Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha, reports AFP.

Eight people have been taken to hospital in Odessa. A fire has reportedly broken out on board and a search operation led by Ukraine's maritime rescue and navy is underway.

The Russian Defense Ministry writes on its Telegram channel that Russia carried out attacks on Ukrainian ships and ports on Sunday.

The Ukrainian Navy established a shipping corridor in the Black Sea in the summer of 2023.
